Heard that the King died peacefully last night at midnight. One is v. glad he had the triumph of that Jubilee.
Lunched at Government House. All in deep black.
Sir H* walked on the terrace with me and after lunch took me to his study and we talked till 4pm. Hard to feel really at ease with the fellow. Discussed my screed on Native Development and Constitutional Reform. Sir H doesnât like my territorial divisions. Wonât have anything savouring of segregation. He wants a white community and a black community each with local self-government and not usurping any of the functions of central government till they are fit to take it over in its entirety.
Wonder why we go on.
